The running for the cost of the sequencing of the human genome

28 February 2014

Less than a decade ago, 250 000$ were necessary to sequence it while today 5 000$ are enough. But this truth was swept there is little by the announcement of the release of the new machine of Illumina which will allow to make it for only 1 000$. The “Hiseq X Dix” announced in a 10 million dollars first price, is conceived to sequence five genomes a day is thousands of genomes in the year. It has an equivalent precision and a speed ten times superior to his predecessor and it is already present in three big centers of genomics.

This decline of cost will thus allow a bigger part of the population to sequence its genome and thus to half-open the door on a new era of the personalized medicine.
